The University

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), founded in December 1949, is a key university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, P.R.C. and one of the 100 keyuniversities of the State for the 21st century. As a foreign language university committed toproviding a variety of applied programs, SISU prepares professionals qualified for roles ininternational affairs, with expertise in more than one specialty. SISU is composed of 14 collegesand 4 departments, with 34 undergraduate programs, 25 master’s degree programs and 10 doctoraldegree programs. SISU, one of the earliest universities accepting international students, began toenroll international students at the end of 1970’s, and now has a full enrollment of over 1400 long-term overseas students, among whom 40% are taking undergraduate programs, master’s degree programs or doctoral degree programs. Besides, SISU has an enrollment of over 900 short-term overseas students every year.

PROGRAMS DETAILS

The programs in International Economics and Trade will exposestudents to research findings and approaches relevant to the disciplines. They will also exposestudents to key issues relevant to the disciplines at international levels. They offer formal studiesin the Chinese language & culture and general economics and management areas during the firsttwo years, giving them a broad language and business grounding before proceeding to morespecialist studies of the international business environment and the management of internationalbusinesses in the following years.

Totally 40 credits of intensive Chinese course are offered, including Chinese language, culture,religions, history, etc., which help students master the Chinese language skills of listening,speaking, reading and writing and understand the richness of Chinese culture, society and history.

The programs will be offered totally in English. Professors, faculty members and administratorscommunicate totally in English, and all teaching materials are provided in English.

Students come from various countries, which creates a multi-cultural community to help studentsmake cross-national friends and potential business partners in future career.

Objectives

The programs will teach you to understand the world of business and will provide you with thefoundation skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a successful career in business.

The programs will provide you a thorough understanding of the workings of economy andbusiness in China. Through professional training in the business disciplines, it will develop acapacity for logical analysis and the knowledge and skills required to do business with Chinese.

The programs will help you develop the practical skills employers are looking for, includingstrong analytical skills, high-level problem solving skills, the ability to communicate effectivelywith a business environment, and team-working skills.

Practicum & Thesis : 10 credits

Requirements of Admission

Applicants should be Non-Chinese citizens, senior high school graduates, over 18 and under 40 years old, in good health, and with reliable financial support and custody.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must have a good command of English, with one of the following:

- TOEFL IBT (internet based) test result of at least 80 points,

- TOEFL (computer based) test result of at least 213 points,

- TOEFL (paper based) test result of at least 550 points,

- IELTS test result of at least 6.0.

This requirement does not apply to an applicant who has studied for at least two years at, or received a degree from an English speaking high school, college or university.

Applicants with IELTS between 4.5 and 6.0 or equivalent may be admitted conditionally. Conditional students will be required to pass an Entrance Examination in English.
